Key features for Aleo
Private and public ALEO
Every Aleo address has a public balance that anyone can see and a private one held in encrypted records. The ALEO page shows both.
Convert between them
Convert moves ALEO from your public balance to your private one, or back, in a single transaction.
You choose what is public
For each transfer, Configure Send sets whether you spend public or private ALEO, and whether the recipient receives it publicly or privately.
Feature availability
- Send and receive
- Send and receive ALEO from one address, starting with
aleo1. Under Configure Send, choose public or private for what you send and for what the recipient receives. - Tokens
- The Aleo tokens on FxWallet’s list, such as stALEO and pALEO, with their public balances; they are sent publicly. Other Aleo tokens cannot be added.
- Fee options
- The fee depends on the kind of transfer. It is paid from your public balance by default; under Customize Transaction Fee, pay it from a private record instead, or raise it.
- Private keys and watch wallets
- Import a wallet by its Aleo private key, starting with
APrivateKey1. View keys cannot be imported, and watch wallets are for EVM addresses only. - Risk warnings
- The recipient of every transfer is checked against known scam and sanctioned addresses. Look-alike address warnings cover EVM networks only.

Important notes
- Exchanges accept public ALEO only. When you send to an exchange, choose Public under both You send and User receives, and keep the fee public: an exchange may never credit private ALEO, or a transfer with a private fee. See Aleo FAQ.
- A private send spends one record. Private ALEO is held in separate records, and one private send can spend only one of them; send the rest in further transactions. A record marked (V0) must be upgraded before it can be spent, which is a transaction with a fee.
- The private balance appears once it is synchronized. After you confirm it is you, FxWallet reads your private records from the network and shows Synchronizing... until it has read them all. Until then, the private balance and history are incomplete.
- One transaction at a time. While an Aleo transaction is pending, you cannot send another from the same wallet. See Network rules FAQ.
Questions
In the help center
Can I send private ALEO to an exchange?
No. Exchanges accept public ALEO only, and may never credit private ALEO or a transfer with a private fee. On the send screen, tap Configure Send, choose Public under both You send and User receives, and keep the fee public. To deposit private ALEO, first move it to your public balance with Convert. See Aleo FAQ.
Why is it not possible to send all my private ALEO at once?
Private ALEO is held in separate records, and one private send can spend only one of them: Selected private record shows how much the chosen record holds. Send the rest in further transactions. The fee is paid from your public balance by default, so keep some public ALEO, or pay the fee from a private record under Customize Transaction Fee.
Who can see my private ALEO?
On the network, a private balance and the details of a private transfer are encrypted. To find your private records, FxWallet’s Aleo service scans the network with your view key, which reveals your private balance and history but cannot spend them. FxWallet’s proving service then makes each transaction’s zero-knowledge proof from the transaction you sign on your phone. Your private key stays on your phone.
Can I move my wallet from another Aleo wallet?
Yes, with its private key: import the key starting with APrivateKey1, and FxWallet opens the same address. A mnemonic phrase opens the same address only in a wallet that derives Aleo keys the way FxWallet does (m/44'/0'/n'/0'); if the address differs, import the private key instead.
