Most losses start with a signature

A fake DApp can copy the name and design of a real one, and a single approval can let a contract spend all of a token. In a DApp, every request you sign is prepared by the site itself.

FxWallet opens DApps in its own browser and connects to DApps on a computer through WalletConnect. Before you confirm, it checks the sites and contracts it can, and shows approvals in a form you can read.

Where FxWallet checks
  1. You open a site
  2. Site checkSites outside the catalogue are checked; risky ones are flagged
  3. The DApp sends a transaction
  4. Contract checkThe contract it calls is checked on EVM networks
  5. Readable approvalToken, amount and contract, with an amount you can change
  6. You confirmThe key signs on your phone, or on your hardware wallet

What FxWallet does with DApps

A check before an unknown site opens

When the browser opens a site outside the catalogue, FxWallet checks its address first. A site flagged as risky stays hidden behind the High risk website alert until you choose; an unknown one gets a Redirecting notice.

Contracts checked before you confirm

On EVM networks, the contract each DApp or WalletConnect transaction calls, or the one an approval is for, is checked. The confirmation says when it has been identified as risky or is uncatalogued.

Approvals you can read and limit

An approval shows the token, the amount, Unlimited included, and the contract, and the amount can be changed before you confirm. Permit and Permit2 signatures show the token and the spender, and Sign-In with Ethereum requests show their details.

WalletConnect, with the permissions listed

A connection request shows the DApp’s name and website, the wallet and networks it will use, and the permissions it asks for, the riskier ones in orange. Connections can be ended one by one or all at once.

A Gas Card can pay the fee

On BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism, a Gas Card can pay the network fee of DApp and WalletConnect transactions, so the wallet does not need that network’s coin for them.

Hardware wallets sign by QR code

With a Keystone or Goldshell hardware wallet, or a spare phone in cold wallet mode, DApp requests are shown as a QR code and signed on the device, so the keys stay offline.

In the app

Inside DApps & WalletConnect

  • A risky site, flagged before it opens

When a site outside the catalogue has been flagged, its page stays hidden behind the High risk website alert. Go Back leaves it; Continue Anyway opens it.

  • An approval, before you confirm

The confirmation shows the token and the amount to approve, the network, the contract and the wallet. Unlimited can be changed to a set amount, and a warning appears at the top when the contract has been identified as risky or is uncatalogued.

  • A WalletConnect connection request

On the DApp, choose WalletConnect, then scan its QR code with Scan on the wallet’s home screen. The request shows the DApp’s name and website, the wallet and its networks, and the DApp permissions; tap Connect to approve it.

Coverage and limits

  • Networks: EVM networks and Solana. DApps on TRON, Bitcoin and other networks are not supported.
  • The Discover tab is available in wallets that have an EVM network. WalletConnect needs a wallet with more than one network.
  • Explore lists the catalogue’s DApps by category, with a filter by network, and the DApps you add yourself; Favorites keeps the ones you mark. FxWallet lists DApps for reference: it does not run or endorse them, and what a DApp’s page shows is its own.
  • WalletConnect connects by scanning the DApp’s QR code, or a screenshot of it chosen with Album. A connection stays with the wallet that scanned it.
  • In the browser, a DApp can switch to a network already in your wallet and must ask before it adds one. A WalletConnect DApp uses the networks approved when it connected.
  • Shown in readable form: token approvals and revocations, Permit, Permit2 and Sign-In with Ethereum. Other typed data is listed field by field, and Solana transactions are shown as raw data.
  • Checks: sites are checked in the browser, except those in the catalogue and those for which you ticked Do not show again for this website; contracts are checked for EVM transactions, not for signatures. The name and website of a WalletConnect DApp come from the DApp itself. A request without a warning is not necessarily safe.
  • Network fees: a Gas Card can pay them on BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism, except in hardware and watch-only wallets. Paying them in another token is not available for DApp transactions.
Do I need WalletConnect for DApps in the app?

No. DApps opened in Discover connect to FxWallet directly. WalletConnect is for DApps on another device, such as a website on a computer.

How do I use a DApp on my computer?

In the DApp, choose WalletConnect when it asks for a wallet, then scan its QR code with Scan on the wallet’s home screen. Each request then appears on your phone to confirm or cancel.

What does “uncatalogued” mean?

FxWallet has no record of the contract, so it cannot say whether it is safe. Check the DApp’s website address and the request before you confirm, and limit an approval to the amount you need.

How do I end a WalletConnect connection?

While a connection is open, a WalletConnect button floats over the app: tap it, then Disconnect. With several DApps connected, Disconnect All under Connected DApps ends them all.

How can I see a site’s full address?

The browser shows the page’s title at the top. In its menu (⋯), Copy Link copies the page’s address, so you can check it letter by letter.

Can I revoke an approval I gave a DApp?

Yes. Approvals, under More on the wallet’s home screen, lists what you have approved on EVM networks, flags the risky ones and revokes them.
